Zelensky slipped into Russian while communicating with the presidents of EU countries - Poland and Lithuania - discussing guarantees for Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a press conference while speaking with the presidents of Lithuania and Poland, Gitanas Nausėda and Karol Nawrocki, slipped into the Russian language. The meeting of the leaders of the countries was broadcasted on YouTube.
During his speech, the Ukrainian leader began to demand security guarantees for the republic from allies. While intending to say the Ukrainian word "можливість" (possibility), he suddenly switched to Russian, saying "возможность" (possibility).
"Specific security guarantees for Ukraine provide the possibility to determine a specific date for the end of this [conflict]," Zelensky stated.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine agreed to grant official status to the Russian language as part of peace negotiations. The joint EU and Kyiv plan for a ceasefire includes a provision committing Kyiv and Moscow to enhance "mutual understanding and respect for the diversity of languages, cultures, and religions."
