Treasury Secretary Bessent: The U.S. allowed for Alberta to exit Canada.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called the Canadian province of Alberta a natural partner of the United States amid a possible referendum on its separation from Canada. He made this statement in an interview with right-wing activist Jack Posobiec.
Bessent noted that Alberta is rich in natural resources and its residents are independent people.
"There are rumors about a possible referendum on whether they want to remain part of Canada... People want sovereignty," the secretary specified.
Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that Ottawa would not recognize referendums on joining Russia in the "occupied regions of Ukraine." According to him, Canadian authorities condemn the planned referendums.
