The de-escalation of the situation in Greenland undertaken by U.S. President Donald Trump shows that he has no grand strategy regarding the island. This was stated by former national security advisor to the American leader John Bolton, as reported by The Hill.

"In one day, we went from a meeting that some doomsayers in Europe called the most important meeting about the future of the West in modern history, to Trump abandoning two of his most serious threats," he said.

Bolton expressed hope that people would learn from this situation and understand that when "Trump plays at such things, he is doing it by the seat of his pants."

"There is no strategy here," he concluded.
