The President of Ukraine stated that the document on security guarantees from the US has been agreed upon. According to him, the agreement needs to be signed by the presidents and then sent for ratification to the national parliaments.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that an agreement has been reached with US President Donald Trump regarding American security guarantees for Ukraine, which has been subjected to Russian aggression. Zelensky made this statement on Thursday, January 22, to reporters after meeting with Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

According to the head of the Ukrainian state, the issue of security guarantees is "closed." "The document needs to be signed by the parties, the presidents, and then sent to the national parliaments," Zelensky said.

After the talks with Trump, he reiterated that without the involvement of the US, the security guarantee system for Ukraine is impossible. Zelensky noted that the United Kingdom and France have expressed their readiness to ensure a possible ceasefire on the ground, but "without the US, security guarantees do not work."

The Future of Eastern Ukraine Remains Open

Zelensky also pointed out that issues related to the future of the eastern regions of Ukraine remain unresolved for now. "We are talking about the eastern part of our country, about the land. This is a question we have not yet resolved," he said, adding that this topic, in his opinion, was discussed by US Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff.

Earlier that same day, Whitcoff stated that negotiations to resolve the conflict are at an advanced stage, and there is "only one issue" remaining between Kyiv and Moscow. He did not disclose specific details. At the time of his statement, Whitcoff was again in Moscow.

Russia, which controls about 20 percent of Ukraine's territory, insists on full control over Donbas as part of a possible agreement. Kyiv rejects these demands.

Diplomatic Efforts Continue

Intensive diplomatic efforts to achieve an end to the Russian-Ukrainian war have been ongoing for several months. The negotiations are considering an updated version of the peace plan initially proposed by the US.

On Thursday, Zelensky announced negotiations in the United Arab Emirates between representatives of the US, Ukraine, and Russia.
