Europe needs to show its teeth to the U.S., or it will be eaten. This conclusion was reached by European lawmakers and politicians, reports The Washington Post (WP).
As the publication notes, after a year of trying to win over U.S. President Donald Trump with flattery and trade deals, European politicians have begun to consider options for retaliation.
It is noted that top European leaders still emphasize that they would prefer to avoid escalation; however, Trump's threats have caused such outrage on the continent that lawmakers and politicians are warning: Europe needs to show its teeth now, or it will be eaten.
"The policy of appeasement has failed. Europe can protect its sovereignty (from Ukraine to Greenland) only by reducing dependence, strengthening deterrence, and making unlimited use of its most powerful tool: access to the world's largest single market," said Spanish MP and Vice President of the European Parliament Javi Lopez.
Earlier, it became known that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offered herself as a mediator between Trump and the European Union regarding Greenland. She suggests that the U.S. may have misinterpreted Europe's actions in sending troops to the Arctic island.
