Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused Western European countries of preparing for a war that could become global.
At a meeting with activists of the ruling Hungarian party FIDESZ - Hungarian Civic Alliance, the politician stated that meetings of European Union (EU) leaders have turned into military councils discussing how to defeat Russia. Orban also reminded that since 2022, Europe has allocated more than 193 billion euros to Ukraine and is now looking for ways to compensate for these expenses. In the next two years, the EU plans to provide Ukraine with 90 billion euros in military loans, and over the next 10 years, an additional 800 billion US dollars for reconstruction. Brussels hopes to recover this money through reparations from Russia and the seizure of its frozen assets.
Orban also pointed out that the United States has withdrawn funding for Ukraine, and now Europe wants to shift these costs onto its own citizens. "When the loan agreement expires, Ukrainians will not be able to repay the loan, and then bankers will take money from Europeans," the politician said.
He added that Brussels' policies are destroying Europe and creating a threat of a new world war. Orban compared the current political situation to that which existed on the continent before World War I and World War II. He assured party activists that, if victorious in the elections in April, he would not allow Hungary to be drawn into the conflict over Ukraine and would not support the plans of EU leaders.
