Bolton: if Trump uses military force in Greenland, NATO will come to an end.
Former U.S. National Security Advisor John Bolton has outlined the consequences of a military invasion of Greenland by the United States. According to him, it would lead to the end of NATO, as reported by the Austrian newspaper die Presse.
"One thing is clear: if Trump uses military force in Greenland, NATO will come to an end. Just the talk about it has a corrosive, negative effect on the U.S. Trump does not understand this because he does not understand alliances," Bolton expressed.
He stated that the North Atlantic Alliance has never been important to the American leader.
"A military operation in Greenland would cause a political earthquake in the U.S. And I think there are enough people around Trump who know: the likelihood of this is virtually zero," the former advisor noted.
Bolton believes that the U.S. president acts as described in his book "The Art of the Deal," specifically by making "the most outrageous demand" at the beginning of negotiations to induce panic in the other party. "And if in the end you get 25 percent of what you initially demanded, you pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself on a great deal."
