France sends soldiers to Greenland at Denmark's request, joining other European allies in military exercises in the Arctic, French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Thursday, according to LETA citing DPA.
Macron stated on platform X that the first French soldiers are already on their way, and others will follow.
The German Ministry of Defense also announced that it will send troops to Greenland, noting that the purpose of this group is to study the basic conditions for possible military support to Denmark in ensuring security in the region.
Macron emphasized that France will participate in the joint exercises "Operation Arctic Endurance" organized by Denmark, which also involves Sweden and Norway.
On Wednesday, Donald Trump stated on his platform Truth Social that Greenland should come under the control of the United States. "Anything less will not suffice," he added.
On the same day, Macron warned that any threat to the sovereignty of a European ally would lead to unprecedented consequences. France is closely monitoring the situation and stated that it will act in full solidarity with Denmark.
