The United States should not use Russia or China to justify its own interests in the Arctic. This warning was issued by the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Mao Ning.
According to Mao Ning, the Chinese authorities "disagree with the notion that the United States uses China or Russia as a pretext to advance its own interests," which are cited as the basis for U.S. claims over Greenland. She emphasized that the Arctic involves the common interests of the international community.
"China's activities in the Arctic contribute to the strengthening of peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region, and are in accordance with international law," noted the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
