According to the publication's sources, the seizure of the tanker, which was sailing under the Russian flag, was a signal for Putin to accelerate the resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

"He (Trump — ed.) is using the method of the carrot and the stick. And I think he has run out of carrots," noted a source close to the American leader.

On January 7, the European Command of the U.S. Armed Forces announced the detention of the tanker Marinera, which was sailing under the Russian flag. It was reported that the vessel was detained in the North Atlantic.
