As a result of the U.S. invasion of Venezuela, during which the country's leader Nicolas Maduro was captured on Saturday, hundreds of people died and dozens more were injured, said Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello on Wednesday, according to LETA citing AFP.
"As of now — and I emphasize, as of now — there are 100 dead and about the same number injured. The attack on our country was horrifying," said Cabello on state television.
The minister added that Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were injured during the takeover, but "are recovering." This week, appearing in court in New York, Maduro and his wife were able to move around on their own.
On Tuesday, it was reported that 55 Cuban and Venezuelan military personnel were killed during a raid conducted by the U.S. Maduro, like the former leader of Venezuela Hugo Chavez, hired Cuban military personnel for his protection.
