U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he does not believe Ukrainian drones attacked the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Novgorod region, as claimed by the Kremlin, LETA reports citing AFP.
"I don’t believe this attack actually happened," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route from Florida.
According to him, "something" did happen near Putin's residence, but after analyzing the evidence, U.S. officials concluded that Ukraine did not attack this residence.
It was previously reported that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) concluded that, contrary to Russia's claims, Ukraine did not carry out a drone attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region. This was reported to reporters last week by U.S. officials.
Initially, Trump criticized Ukraine after a phone call with Putin, claiming that it had carried out such an attack.
Meanwhile, Kyiv categorically denied that such an attack took place.
Citing American officials, the Wall Street Journal reported last week that the strike by Ukrainian drones was aimed at a military facility in the same region where one of Putin's residences is located, but not near the residence itself. This was confirmed by CIA analysis.
PBS and CNN reported that on Wednesday, CIA Director John Ratcliffe informed Trump of the intelligence findings.
After meeting with Ratcliffe, Trump shared on his social media platform Truth Social a comment from the New York Post tabloid that sharply criticized Russia. In the New York Post publication, Putin is described as a real obstacle to peace.
