The United States Proposes a Potentially New Format for Negotiations Between Ukraine and Russia — Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated on Saturday that the U.S. has proposed to hold peace negotiations involving representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and possibly European countries, LETA reports citing BBC.

“The United States said they would hold a separate meeting with representatives of Russia, and as far as I understand, they proposed such a format: Ukraine, America, ‘the Russians,’ — and since there are also representatives from Europe, possibly Europe as well. Why do I say ‘possibly’? Because it would make sense to hold such a joint meeting,” Zelensky said.

According to him, Kyiv will make a decision on the format after it becomes clear whether the bilateral negotiations with representatives of the United States, resumed on Friday, will be productive.

On Saturday, negotiations between representatives of Russia and the United States will take place in Miami, where a plan to end the war in Ukraine will be discussed. It is expected that the U.S. will be represented by special envoy of President Donald Trump Steve Witkoff and the president's son-in-law Jared Kushner.

On Friday, negotiations took place in Miami between the Ukrainian delegation and representatives of the United States and European partners. The U.S. delegation included Witkoff and Kushner, while Europe was represented by national security advisors from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.

“The meeting in the U.S. with American and European partners has concluded,” said the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov. “We agreed with our American partners on further steps and the continuation of joint work in the near future.”

At the moment, a trilateral meeting of representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States is not planned.
