If an agreement is reached to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, Russia will move its armed forces closer to NATO borders, warned Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, urging Western allies not to let their guard down, LETA reported citing TVP.

The Prime Minister also urged the European Union to increase financial support for the countries on the eastern flank of the bloc, as they continue to support Kyiv and increase their defense spending, the British newspaper Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

"We know that when peace reigns in Ukraine, Russia will still remain a threat. It is clear that they will move their military forces to our border and to the border with the Baltic countries," the publication quoted the Prime Minister as saying.

"It is clear that we need financial support [from Brussels]. We know that the U.S. is preparing to reduce support and involvement in the defense of Europe, as they have many other security issues," noted the Prime Minister of Finland.

In response to a question from a journalist at the Polish television channel TVP World about whether NATO should increase its military presence in regions bordering Russia if Moscow takes such actions, Orpo stated: "We must strengthen our eastern flank."
