The U.S. wants Russia's return to the global economy so that the country "has an incentive not to go to war in the future." This was reported by The Washington Post, citing an unnamed American official.
"There are no permanent allies or permanent enemies," the WP source added.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump sought to persuade Russia to agree to security guarantees for Ukraine from the West, similar to Article 5 of NATO's collective defense charter. Article 5 of NATO's charter asserts the principle of collective defense, stating that an armed attack against one or more NATO countries is considered an attack against all.
The United States is also aiming to come to Russia with the strongest package proposal regarding Ukraine as soon as possible.
