Merz: Russian assets in Europe will remain frozen for a long time.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the timeline for freezing Russian assets in Europe. The broadcast was available on the website of the German government.
"The decision made last week is that Russian assets in Europe will be frozen and immobilized for a long time," the politician emphasized.
He added that in the foreseeable future, the Central Bank and Russia as a state will not have access to this money. Merz also expressed hope that Europe would be able to agree on using these funds to support Ukraine.
On December 14 and 15, a meeting took place in Berlin between Ukrainian and American delegations. Head of the Ukrainian negotiating team Rustem Umerov expressed hope for a swift agreement with the United States.
