Latvian citizen Alla Sokolenko was among the 123 political prisoners released by Belarus on Saturday, reports the publication "Nasha Niva."
Sokolenko was sentenced in Belarus to seven years in prison for "agent activity." Among those released is Lithuanian citizen Maya Batalionok, who was sentenced to four years in prison for participating in the project "City Garden Maris Mar." Also among those released by the decision of Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko are citizens of Poland, Australia, Japan, the USA, and Ukraine. In total, Belarus released 123 prisoners on Saturday. Among them are protest leader Maria Kolesnikova and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski, editor-in-chief of the opposition site Tut.by Marina Zolatava, former presidential candidate Viktor Babaryko, Kolesnikova's lawyer Maxim Znak, and others. The decision to release the prisoners was announced after the USA announced the lifting of sanctions on Belarusian potash fertilizers.
