The range of the "Hetz-3" is 2000 kilometers.
On December 3, the Israeli missile defense system "Hetz-3" will go on operational duty in Germany. According to German media, the solemn ceremony, which will take place at the base in Schönwalde, will be attended by the Chief of Staff of the Bundeswehr, General Carsten Breuer, and the Commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Holger Neumann.
Europäische Sicherheit & Technik notes that this is the initial deployment under the agreement signed in 2023 for Germany to supply several "Hetz-3" batteries. The total contract amount is approximately 3.5 billion euros.
"The system will create a 360-degree shield over Germany, providing protection for the country, its population, and critical infrastructure from long-range missiles. It will strengthen the European component of NATO's air defense," states the German army.
The range of the "Hetz-3" is 2000 kilometers, and it is capable of intercepting targets at altitudes of over 100 kilometers. Unlike previous modifications, it uses a kinetic kill vehicle.
Germany is also interested in the "Hetz-4" system, which is still under development. The range of this missile is 1000-1500 kilometers, and interception occurs at altitudes of 30-100 kilometers. Launchers from the "Hetz-3" can be used for its deployment.
As the experience of the war in Ukraine shows, airstrikes using both missiles and drones pose a threat primarily to civilian infrastructure: power plants, water supply systems, and residential areas. Their protection requires increasing efforts.
