The German government wants to pay 100 million euros for protection against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) due to the discovery of debris resembling them near infrastructure sites. This is reported by the German newspaper Bild.
The federal government will invest 100 million euros in modern counter-drone defense in the short term," the publication notes.
It is also clarified that plans for the procurement of specific weapons to destroy UAVs remain unknown. It is assumed that this will strengthen the security of airports.
Earlier, Politico reported that the German Armed Forces cannot shoot down UAVs in the country's airspace — and this is largely due to protective measures taken to avoid a repetition of the country's Nazi past.
In particular, the German Constitution, adopted under the influence of World War II, explicitly prohibits the armed forces from playing a key role in ensuring the country's internal security. This is because its authors remembered how the Nazis and their accomplices historically abused Germany's military power to persecute leftist political forces.
