U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he will likely sue the British broadcasting corporation BBC next week for 'fraudulently' editing his speech in the program "Panorama." He made this statement to reporters aboard Air Force One, Reuters reports.

"I think I have to do it, as they even admitted they cheated. They changed the words I said," said the American president, as quoted by Meduza.

According to him, he will demand compensation from the BBC in the amount of one to five billion dollars.

He added that he had not discussed this issue with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, although Starmer had tried to reach him and was "very embarrassed" by the incident.

In October 2024, a week before the U.S. presidential election, the BBC aired an episode of the program "Panorama." While recounting the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, the program edited together segments from two different speeches by Trump, creating the impression that he was directly calling on the gathered crowd to riot and violence.

Due to the scandal over the edited speech, BBC Director-General Tim Davie and head of BBC News Deborah Turness resigned. On November 9, 2025, the BBC received a letter from Trump's lawyers stating that the U.S. president demanded that the broadcasting corporation never air the episode of "Panorama" with the edited speech again, apologize, and "properly compensate for the damages caused." The BBC apologized to Trump but stated that it did not intend to pay compensation to the U.S. president.
