On Friday morning, the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, was subjected to a massive attack by Russian armed forces in almost all areas of the city, reported Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, according to LETA citing AFP.

Russian missiles and drones attacked critical infrastructure facilities in the capital, reported the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnikov.

At least 11 people were injured, five of whom were hospitalized. Among the injured are a pregnant woman and a man in "very serious condition," Klitschko wrote on the Telegram app.

Heating system sections were damaged, and some buildings in the Desnyansky district were temporarily left without heating, the mayor reported.

He also added that there may be interruptions in the supply of electricity and water.

Journalists from AFP witnessed tracer bullets and several missile defense systems being used against the drones.

"The Russians are striking residential buildings. Many high-rise buildings across Kyiv have been severely damaged, practically in every district," reported the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachенко, on social media.

Klitschko reported fires or damage to buildings in eight out of ten districts of Kyiv. Ambulance teams were dispatched to all locations.

In the Solomenska district, near Kyiv International Airport, a fire broke out on the roof of a five-story residential building.

The attack occurred against the backdrop of increasing pressure from Kyiv's Western allies on Russia.

On Wednesday, Canada announced new sanctions against Russian drone manufacturing and the energy sector, as well as against infrastructure used for cyberattacks.

On the same day, the foreign ministers of the G7 countries called for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and expressed "unwavering" support for the country's territorial integrity.
