The new Czech government will cancel military aid to Ukraine - Politico

The Czech Republic, which has so far been one of Ukraine's most consistent allies, is likely to cancel its aid to Kyiv after the formation of the new government. This was stated in an interview with Politico by far-right politician Filip Turek, who is highly likely to become the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

According to him, the new government will adhere to the Czech Republic's commitments to NATO and uphold international law. "But it will prioritize diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine and reducing conflict risks in Europe, shifting from military aid funded by the national budget to humanitarian support and focusing on the security needs of the Czech Republic," Turek said.

He assured that the Czech Republic's position on Russia would not change, but the new government would place "a broader emphasis on sovereignty and non-interference." According to Turek, the new government will aim to "avoid escalation that could jeopardize the energy security or economic stability of the Czech Republic."

As Politico notes, Turek's words echo the position held by the Hungarian government, which has already stated that it sees Prague as a potentially new ally in undermining European support for Ukraine.
