Belgian Prime Minister: the EU has no answer to the question of the legality of confiscating Russian assets.
The European Union (EU) does not have a clear answer to the question of the legality of confiscating frozen Russian assets. This was stated by Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, as reported by Reuters.
“Can this (the confiscation of Russian assets — ed.) be legal? That is a very good question, and there are no clear answers to it. If you ask lawyers, they will give different and unclear answers,” noted the Belgian prime minister.
Earlier, Politico magazine reported that De Wever had taken an uncompromising stance and had “derailed the deal” to use frozen Russian assets to assist Ukraine. It is noted that the country's position has “thrown into confusion” plans that Western officials had been “working on for months.”
