After the lifting of the exit ban for Ukrainian men aged 18 to 22 in August, the number of asylum requests in Germany from this group increased from 100 to about 1000 per week, the German Ministry of the Interior reported.
In recent weeks, the number of young people from Ukraine seeking asylum in Germany has significantly increased. The lifting of the exit ban for Ukrainians aged 18 to 22 at the end of August led to an increase in asylum applications from this age group "from about 100 to around 1000 per week." This was stated on Wednesday, October 15, by a representative of the German Ministry of the Interior to Funke Mediengruppe. It is "currently impossible to assess" how much of this is a "temporary phenomenon," she clarified.
The total number of Ukrainian citizens seeking asylum in Germany has also increased. According to the Ministry of the Interior, in May 2025, 7,961 people from Ukraine were registered through the Free registration system, in August - 11,277, and in September - 18,755. Ukrainians receive residence permits under § 24 of the Residence Act, which grants them immediate access to the labor market and social benefits.
According to Funke Mediengruppe, as of October 4, 2025, a total of 1,293,672 people who fled to Germany due to the war in Ukraine since February 2022 were registered in the Central Foreigners Register. However, the representative of the federal Ministry of the Interior could not specify how many Ukrainians have already left Germany. At the same time, she noted that as of the end of September, about 450,000 migrants from Ukraine were registered as "not entitled to stay" in Germany.
