Germany Accuses China of Undermining International Order

Tokyo and Berlin, as like-minded allies, share core values, stated Johann Wadephul. Both countries are positioned on the western and eastern flanks of the emerging bloc consisting of China and Russia, writes DW.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul accused China of undermining the international order. The head of Germany's foreign policy agency spoke on Tuesday, October 14, at the Japan-Germany Center in Berlin.

"China and Russia are trying to rewrite the international order based on international law," the minister was quoted by the dpa agency. According to Wadephul, Beijing is pursuing an increasingly aggressive policy towards its neighbors and supports Moscow.

Chinese authorities are spreading a narrative worldwide that they are defending a multilateral approach and multilateral institutions. But in reality, Beijing ignores maritime law in the South China Sea and supports Russian aggression against Ukraine, including to justify its own hegemonic ambitions, believes the German Foreign Minister.

Wadephul: Beijing Supports the Operation of the Russian Military Machine

At the same time, Tokyo and Berlin, as like-minded allies, share core values and goals, added Johann Wadephul. They are positioned on the western and eastern flanks of the emerging bloc.

The significant increase in Chinese presence in the waters around Japan, as well as tensions in the Taiwan Strait, "not only pose a threat to security in the Indo-Pacific region but also undermine the entire rules-based international order," noted the German minister. "Beijing supports the operation of the Russian military machine," he pointed out.

In turn, Russia's aggression against Ukraine affects not only the European order based on peace but also the Indo-Pacific security architecture, emphasized the Foreign Minister.

The US Deployed Typhon Missile Launchers in Japan

It was previously reported that during joint military exercises, the US tested new Typhon missile launchers in Japan.

The missile systems, produced by Lockheed Martin, were deployed on Japanese territory for the first time, confirmed the Japan Self-Defense Forces. However, no missile launches were conducted from these launchers. Even in inactive mode, the Typhon launchers raised serious concerns in Beijing.

Japan also plans to acquire several American Tomahawk cruise missiles by 2027, with a stated cost ranging from half a million to two million dollars.
