Politico: Italy announced the preparation of a ban on wearing the niqab and burqa.
The ruling party "Brothers of Italy" announced the preparation of a law that will prohibit the wearing of burqas and niqabs in public places and limit foreign funding for mosques. This was reported by Politico, citing a statement from MP and bill initiator Andrea Delmastro.
"Freedom of religion is sacred, but it must be exercised openly, with full respect for our constitution and the principles of the Italian state," the politician wrote.
It is reported that violators of the ban on wearing such clothing face fines ranging from 300 to 3000 euros. The initiative will also include stricter penalties for forced marriages and requirements for religious groups not officially recognized by the state to disclose any foreign funding.
