The court of the Finnish province of Kainuu issued a ruling in the case of a 54-year-old Finnish citizen who illegally crossed the border into Russia and remained there for three days. This was reported by Yle.

The incident occurred back in December 2024, when the Kainuu Border Guard received a report of illegal border crossing.

It turned out that a Finnish citizen had found himself on Russian territory 15 kilometers from the border of Russia and Finland. He was discovered by Russian border guards with signs of frostbite, after which he was extradited back to his homeland.

A case was initiated against the man for illegal border crossing. He admitted his guilt, and the court imposed a fine totaling 550 euros.

It should be noted that Finland closed its land borders with Russia indefinitely at the end of 2023, citing migration pressure instigated by the Russian side. Finland also began constructing a fence along the border with the Russian Federation.
