Estonia Responds to Merkel«s Words About the Baltic States» Guilt in the Beginning of the War in Ukraine

Mihkelson: Merkel's statements about the guilt of the Baltic states cast a shadow on her.

The statements of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel regarding the guilt of the Baltic states in the beginning of Russia's war in Ukraine cast a shadow on her. This was stated by the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, Marko Mihkelson, on his page on the social network X.

"Unfortunately, this casts a shadow over her entire tenure as Chancellor of Germany," the Estonian official noted.

Mihkelson added that Merkel's statement is extremely unpleasant, also mentioning the incident with the sabotage of the Nord Streams.

Earlier, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel accused Poland and the Baltic states of initiating a special military operation in Ukraine. She made this statement in an interview with the Hungarian publication Partizán.

According to her, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia sabotaged attempts to resolve the Ukrainian crisis in 2021 by opposing her proposal for a new format of dialogue between the European Union (EU) and Russia, thereby indirectly provoking the start of armed conflict.

"In any case, it did not happen. Then I left my post, and then the war began," she said.
