Lithuanian Minister Resigns After Failing to Answer the Question: «Whose Crimea?»

Lithuanian Minister of Culture Ignas Adomavičius announced his resignation. He claims he is doing this under external pressure, which poses a threat to the safety of his family.

Adomavičius received the portfolio of Lithuania's Minister of Culture on September 25 of this year. Thus, he managed to hold his position for just over a week.

During this time, a journalist from lrytas.lt attempted to learn the minister's position on the ownership of Ukrainian Crimea.

"These are provocative questions, let's not even approach them, as we are not talking about the Ministry of Culture right now," Adomavičius replied after a pause.

"Let's not play these games. You understand, there is a boundary that should not be crossed. This is where we need to stop. On these questions," the minister continued to avoid answering the question posed.

He also met the question of what victory for Ukraine would mean to him as a person and a politician with a long pause.

"Probably, the Ukrainians themselves know best what victory means for them. Not us. We cannot understand them as deeply as they see the situation themselves," Adomavičius said.

Adomavičius's candidacy was met with strong dissatisfaction from figures in the arts from the very beginning, as he has no connections to the cultural sector. Before his appointment as minister, Adomavičius worked as an advisor to the Vice-Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas and previously was the commercial director of a family-owned pasta manufacturing company.
