The German Embassy in Lithuania decided not to invite Lithuanian Minister of Culture Ignas Adomavicius to an event in Vilnius on Wednesday dedicated to German Unity Day.

This information was confirmed to BNS by two independent sources.

The embassy did not respond to the question regarding this decision, stating only that the reception at the Palace of the Grand Dukes is a closed event and that the guest list will not be disclosed or commented on.

German Unity Day, celebrated annually on October 3, commemorates the reunification of Germany after the Cold War.

The decision was made against the backdrop of disputes regarding the recent appointment of Adomavicius as Minister of Culture. The coalition transferred the portfolio to the 'Dawn of Neman' party, which sparked negative reactions from cultural figures and provoked protests.

The leader of the 'Dawn of Neman', Remigijus Zemaitaitis, stirred controversy last year with his statements criticizing Israel and accusing Jews of crimes against ethnic Lithuanians during World War II.

The leader of the Lithuanian conservatives, former Minister of Defense of Lithuania Laurynas Kasciunas, commenting on Adomavicius's appointment, stated that Lithuanian ministries are 'turning into a circus.'
