For children under six, it is normal to have ARVI six to eight times a year, and for those attending kindergarten, up to 10 to 12 times, said pediatrician Darya Nelyubina.
According to her, the symptoms of a viral infection in a child can last up to two weeks, which leads parents to feel that the illness is not going away. The pediatrician explained that frequent ARVI in childhood is due to the fact that before starting to attend childcare facilities, the immune system has not yet encountered most infections and needs time to adapt to the large number of viruses and bacteria.
The pediatrician also pointed out the signs that require further examination. These include exceeding the usual frequency of illnesses, regular complications of ARVI such as purulent otitis media, sinusitis, or pneumonia, as well as illnesses occurring year-round outside of the season and in the absence of attending kindergarten.
