From claustrophobia to trypophobia — we all fear something.
While the fear of public speaking or performances is familiar to all of us, the mysterious term "tokophobia" may mean nothing to many. However, it is quite simple — in medicine, this phobia refers to the fear of pregnancy or childbirth.
According to researchers from Dartmouth College, about 62% of women suffer from tokophobia. For the purposes of the study, 1,800 women with an average age of around 30 were surveyed about their desire to have children. Among the main fears identified by women were:
-
pain;
-
the possibility of complications during childbirth;
-
postpartum depression;
-
low income or inability to provide for a child;
-
the possibility of raising a child alone.
