During the school holidays, the musical "The Snow Queen" will take place in Riga

A familiar and beloved magical fairy tale from childhood, full of wonders, embodied in a musical performance, awaits young and adult viewers in anticipation of the New Year. This is the musical "The Snow Queen," the premiere of which the Tallinn theater Musical Theatre SLL will present to the Riga audience during the school holidays on December 28 at 13:00 and 16:00 at the VEF Culture Center. The performance will be in Russian.

Let Good Reign in the World!

A year ago, during the same Christmas and New Year period, a musical theater from Tallinn brought the performance "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," which was a huge success with the Riga audience.

This year, the kind magical fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen will come to life on stage in the form of a bright musical. The audience will embark on a journey into a world where the icy heart of the Snow Queen opposes the warm power of love, loyalty, and friendship. The performance reminds us that even in the coldest times, kindness, courage, love, and devotion can break any spell.

The production will be interesting for audiences of all ages - children will immerse themselves in an atmosphere of wonder, while adults will rediscover the depth and wisdom of the classic story.

Thirty minutes before the performance, guests will be greeted by Santa Claus in the foyer. Children can look forward to a fun New Year’s round dance, games, and riddles, and after the show, each child will receive a sweet gift.

Children under 3 years old can attend the event for free (without a separate seat, accompanied by an adult).

A Mirror from the Christmas Market

The head of the theater and director of the performance, Alyona Meidra, spoke about the production "The Snow Queen":

"Undoubtedly, the plot of our performance is based on the fairy tale. However, we could not give up on improvisation. Our action begins at a cheerful Christmas market, where townsfolk choose festive gifts for their loved ones and friends.

And to Kai, who is looking for a gift for Gerda, approaches an evil mirror seller, persuading him to buy a mirror as a gift. Kai buys it, and unexpectedly… the Snow Queen appears in it, commanding the boy to break the mirror. The shards scatter and create their own evil deeds…

The staging of the performance is multimedia – there will be bright multimedia effects created for the show by media designer Alexander Meidra. The costumes are bright, unusual, and memorable. In the role of the Snow Queen is the certified teacher and professional musical actress Paola Meidra, while the Rat is played by theater and film actor Vadim Malyskin. Other roles are performed by artists of the SLL Musical Theater."

From "Fantasy" to the Musical Theater

The SLL Musical Theater has undergone a significant creative journey – it was established based on the creative center "Fantasy," where children and adults learned to play musical instruments, engage in artistic reading, and vocal training. The studio's students performed on various stages and successfully participated in numerous competitions.

To avoid getting bored in one format, the idea arose to create a simple musical production, where vocalist kids and their teachers would present a musical story to the audience. Thus, the first musical performance "Polar Mutt Express" was born. Following it was "The Kingdom of Cats," which was warmly received by the audience. It was at this moment, in 2009, that the musical theater was opened.

Fairy tale plots are the theater's specialty. The repertoire is aimed at both children and adults. All performances are suitable for family viewing.
