NASA plans to extend the agreement with Roscosmos on cross-flights to the International Space Station (ISS) for another year or one and a half years, said ISS program manager Dana Weigel at a press conference dedicated to the Crew-13 mission.
According to her, NASA typically coordinates mission compositions for a period of one to one and a half years. She noted that cross-flights with the Russian side have already been planned for this period.
"Roscosmos" and NASA signed an agreement on cross-flights in July 2022. It provides for the inclusion of Russian cosmonauts in the crews of American Crew Dragon spacecraft, while NASA astronauts will be included in the crews of Russian Soyuz spacecraft.
This scheme guarantees the presence of representatives from both sides at the ISS in case of delays or cancellations of one of the launches.
At the beginning of 2025, the parties extended the agreements for 2026 and adjusted the crew compositions. In particular, Russian cosmonaut Sergey Teteriatnikov joined the crew of the American mission Crew-13, which NASA plans to launch in September.
