Lionel Messi has completed the acquisition of a controlling stake in the Spanish club "Eldense," which competes in the country's second division. The club's press service announced the deal. Its completion still requires approval from Spain's regulatory authorities.
Messi acquired shares that belonged to the former majority owner - a Colombian investment group - and became the main owner of "Eldense." The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Eldense stated that Messi's acquisition opens a "new and exciting phase" in the club's over 100-year history. The project is aimed at the long-term development of the team and includes strengthening its sporting, institutional, and social components.
Eldense was founded in 1921 and is based in the city of Elda in the province of Alicante. The team competes in the Segunda División, the second tier of Spanish football.
The purchase of Eldense marks Messi's second investment in Spanish football in 2026. In April, the Argentine acquired the Catalan club UE Cornella. Messi continues to play for Inter Miami in MLS.
