Polish athletes may be excluded from the Olympic Games due to the arrest of the head of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOL) Radoslaw Peshevich, reports Onet, citing an internal letter to members of the Polish Olympic Committee.
Peshevich was detained last week as part of an investigation into the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange Zondacrypto. He is accused of corruption. The court in Katowice has decided to arrest him for three months.
According to the publication, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has proposed three options to address the situation following Peshevich's arrest.
The first option is Peshevich's voluntary resignation. In the second case, the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOL) may suspend the president's powers independently.
The third, extreme scenario is IOC intervention, which could lead to the suspension of Poland's membership in the organization. In this case, Polish athletes would be unable to participate in the Olympic and Youth Olympic Games.
The next Olympic Games will take place in the summer of 2028 in Los Angeles (USA).
In April, the Polish prosecutor's office began an investigation into Zondacrypto on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to 350 million zlotys ($95 million). The organization became the general sponsor of PKOL in October 2025.
