The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, after voting in the elections for the 15th Saeima, stated that making a choice is not easy, but everyone has the opportunity to find a political force that most corresponds to their views.

The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, after voting in the elections for the 15th Saeima, stated that making a choice is not easy, but there is always a party that is closer in beliefs, LETA reports.

Rinkēvičs told reporters that he carefully considered his choice. According to him, he monitors daily what has been done and what has not, studies the election programs closely, evaluates the results of politicians' work, and critically assesses their promises.

"To be honest, it’s not that simple at all," the president noted.

He explained that he is guided by his own set of criteria that he has followed since the first parliamentary elections after the restoration of Latvia's independence in 1993.

According to the head of state, it is important for him that Latvia remains a stable part of the Western community. Among the key priorities, he also mentioned security, defense, demographics, economic development, and healthcare.

The president urged residents to participate in the voting.

"It is undoubtedly very important for people to come and make their choice. If you do not come to the elections, someone else decides for you, someone else transfers the mandate of trust to their representatives and achieves the implementation of their ideas," Rinkēvičs emphasized.

He noted that Latvian society is heterogeneous and has a variety of views on the economy, politics, and other issues.

The president also disagreed with the common opinion that there is "no one to vote for" in the elections.

"I completely disagree with those residents who say that there is no one to vote for. No person, no party, no politician is perfect. It has never been and will never be. But there is always someone who is closer in spirit — regardless of whether it is a large party or a small one," he stated.

Rinkēvičs added that after the elections are over, his work will continue on Monday.

Polling stations in Latvia are open until 20:00. After the voting ends, the precinct commissions will begin manual counting of the votes, and preliminary results will be published as data comes in from the stations.
