Don’t get confused in the elections: several candidates with the same full name appeared on the lists. Also, 81 Janis and 24 Alexandras 0 51

An analysis of the candidate lists showed that there are eight matches of first and last names registered for the 2026 Saeima elections. In seven cases, the full names belong to two people, while the record is held by Robert Berzins — there are three candidates with that name.

All three Robert Berzins represent the same party, but they are running in different electoral districts — Zemgale, Vidzeme, and Kurzeme.

Among other full names are two Andris Grinbergs, two Andris Petrov, two Janis Patmalnieks, two Janis Urbanovich, two Maris Purins, two Ronalds Kalnins, and two Viktors Valainis. In most cases, candidates can be distinguished by their year of birth, party, or the district in which they are running.

Such matches occur in almost every election, but having three candidates with exactly the same first and last name is a rather rare situation.

A total of 1,434 candidates have registered for the elections to the 15th Saeima, of which 946 are men and 488 are women.

The most common male name among candidates is Janis — it is held by 81 people, or almost one in twelve men on the lists. Next are Andris (42 candidates), Martins (27), Maris (25), and Alexander (24).

The most common male surname is Kalnins — it is held by eight candidates. Following are Berzins (seven people) and Zarins (six). Four candidates have the surnames Abolins and Kruminsh.

Among women, the most common name is Dace — it is held by 16 candidates. Next are Kristine (15), Inese (14), and also Iveta and Liga — 11 candidates each.

The most common female surname is Ozola: it appears for five candidates. Four participants have the surname Liepina, and three have Zalite, Lapina, and Mikhailova.

Fourteen candidate lists will participate in the elections to the 15th Saeima. Voting will take place on the first Saturday of October.
