The former president has high hopes for the new Minister of the Interior.
Former President of Latvia Egils Levits, in an interview with TV-24, responding to a question about migration issues, noted that there are two groups of migrants in our country. "These are colonists who came to Latvia during the years of occupation, who were non-citizens and later acquired Russian citizenship. And the second group consists of citizens from third countries. Of course, a stricter migration policy is needed here. In this regard, I have high hopes for the new Minister of the Interior Dombrova. Many have already noticed his order number 1 stating that police officers must speak Latvian. This is a completely logical requirement. Latvia is a Latvian national state, and the state language must be used in government institutions. It is only strange that this is all happening 35 years after the restoration of independence," noted the former president.
