The outgoing Prime Minister plans to return to the Saeima, but... not immediately.
Tomorrow will be Evika Silina's last working day as Prime Minister. More precisely - half a day. Until the moment the Saeima approves the new government. She plans to return to parliament, but... not immediately. In an interview with TV-3, Evika Silina stated that she will not rush to resume her parliamentary mandate, as she wants to take a little break. "The last time I was on vacation was during the New Year, and I had to interrupt it and urgently leave for a business trip - to a coalition of goodwill meeting," said the outgoing Prime Minister. We hasten to inform Ms. Silina that many working Latvians - possibly even the majority of them - have not been on vacation since last summer.
As for the resumption of her mandate, she cannot delay it too long - according to the regulations, she must submit an application within 10 days from the end of her prime ministerial powers. That is, no later than June 6.
It is evident that Silina currently finds herself at a crossroads. The party leadership rejected her candidacy for the position of Minister of Defense in the Kulbergs government by a majority vote. After that, Silina was very upset with her own party and indicated in an interview with TV-3 that she "wants to distance herself from politics for a while." She doesn't even know if she will run for the 15th Saeima!
It cannot be ruled out that Silina will follow in the footsteps of her predecessor Kariņš, who left both "New Unity" and politics altogether.
