Maris Kučinskis' priority as Minister of Finance in the new government will be the review of budget expenditures.

"It is necessary to review irrational budget expenditures and create a buffer to protect against them. A thorough audit of the budget will be conducted, as we cannot pass on a budget with ill-considered expenditure items to the next Saeima and government," said Kučinskis.

When asked if this review could affect basic budget expenditures, Kučinskis replied that the new government has too little time to conduct a review of the entire budget base. "It will be considered, but we will not have time to develop zero-based budgets for the ministries. However, sooner or later, this will have to be done," said the candidate for Minister of Finance.

Kučinskis reminded that the priorities of the new government under the leadership of Andris Kulbergs will be security, education, and healthcare, and any new political initiatives can only be related to them.

At the same time, according to Kučinskis, ministries will be able to implement their other priorities if they find funds for them in their budget and do not request additional financing.
