Already on Monday, prime ministerial candidate Andris Kulbergs will inform the president about how his efforts to form a new government are progressing. It is expected that the partners in the ruling coalition will finalize the government declaration and agree on the distribution of ministerial portfolios by noon. Rumor has it that clarity regarding specific candidates for various positions will only come on Tuesday.
In any case, there is a high likelihood that the Saeima will approve the new government already on Thursday, May 28. The last meeting of the outgoing Siliņš government will take place on the 26th. Finance Minister Arvils Ašeradens, knowing that he will not retain his position in the new government, will attempt to push through, to put it mildly, an unnecessary "reform" of the oversight system for the non-bank sector at this last meeting. Relevant amendments to 13 laws have been prepared so that starting next year, the oversight of financial companies will be conducted not by the Consumer Rights Protection Center, as it has been so far, but by the Bank of Latvia.
The last meeting of the Siliņš government will also consider the finance ministry's report on the possibility of listing certain state and municipal enterprises on the stock exchange. Of course, it would only be logical for such a politically sensitive issue to be addressed by the new government...
