More than 5.2 on the Richter scale
The meeting of state secretaries – the working body of the Latvian government – will consider a set of numerous emergency action plans, consolidated into a single version, this Thursday.
The most incredible, catastrophic scenario is being examined in detail: "Based on the results of Latvian seismic hazard studies, there are grounds to consider a probable scenario of an earthquake with a magnitude of at least 5.2 on the Richter scale. Earthquakes of this magnitude can cause damage to building walls, cracks, landslides, strong vibrations, and the falling of various objects.
Strong earthquakes have characteristic and possible consequences: collapses of buildings and structures, injuries, fatalities, damaged engineering communications (gas supply, electricity supply, heating supply, water supply), breaches of hydroelectric dam structures, and flooding."
Each disaster has its own number
In fact, each of the listed riders of the Apocalypse has its own plans: gas supply system accidents – No. 13; breaches of dams and other hydraulic structures of the Daugava cascade – No. 18; building destruction – No. 20…
Of course, all of these can occur regardless of tectonic plate faults – and therefore relevant services must always be on alert.
