Coalition partners agreed to continue working in the government after a meeting with representatives of the political forces forming the coalition, Prime Minister Evika Silina stated, LETA reports.

On Thursday, Silina invited representatives of "New Unity", the Union of Greens and Farmers (UGF), and the Progressive Party for negotiations.

As previously reported by LETA, the disagreements among the parties represented in Silina's government escalated to the point where on Wednesday she acknowledged the possibility of the government's collapse, which could officially be attributed to the inability of "New Unity", the Progressives, and the Union of Greens and Farmers to agree on support for the airline "airBaltic".

Silina stated that she was prepared for the coalition's dissolution in order to secure UGF's support in the Saeima for providing a short-term loan to the airline "airBaltic". She had earlier reported that on Tuesday, UGF offered support in the Saeima vote regarding the "airBaltic" loan on the condition that the Minister of Transport, Atis Švinklis (Progressives), resign.

"If the price for securing support for 'airBaltic' is the collapse of the coalition, I am ready for that," Silina stated earlier, emphasizing that supporting the airline was more important to her than preserving the ruling coalition.
