Tomorrow, April 16, from 10 AM to 12 PM, there will be a picket in front of the Saeima aimed at expressing solidarity with the USA and Israel.

As explained by the event organizer - the Latvian civil society organization Freedom & Friendship, the purpose of the picket is to demonstrate their position regarding the events happening in the world. This includes, in particular:

  • support for the USA and Israel in the current difficult situation for these countries;
  • protest against attempts to sow discord between Latvians/Europeans and Americans and Israelis;
  • a call for the members of the Saeima not to respond to such provocations;
  • words of gratitude to the USA for the role of this country in NATO, which serves as a guarantor of lasting peace and security, including in our region.

Among those planning to participate in tomorrow's rally is lawyer and public figure Dmitry Trofimov. He explained his participation in the upcoming rally as follows:

  • Among the residents of Latvia - those who understand the situation, rather than blindly repeating the narratives imposed by the media - many support the USA and Israel in their confrontation with Iran. More precisely, not with Iran, but with the aggressive regime of fanatics and obscurantists who seized power in that country in 1979.

As far as I know, people of different nationalities intend to participate in tomorrow's picket. We are all united by one thing: we are outraged by what is happening now: a pile-up of slander and lies, the demonization of Israel and Jews - this is a true continuation of Hitler's work, or rather, his main propagandist Goebbels. In the 20th century, this led to terrible consequences, and we do not want this to be repeated in the 21st century.

Today, Israel is accused of genocide, war crimes, aggression - of all mortal sins. As if it were not this country that suffered a barbaric, wild massacre on October 7, 2023. As if it were not its residents who were held for two years in horrifying conditions in underground tunnels. As if Israelis had not literally from the very day of their founding constantly become targets of terrorist attacks!

I am outraged by how Europe is reacting to what is happening. Essentially, European leaders are following the same path of appeasement with murderers and terrorists. There is no real opposition to the crazed crowds chanting "From the river to the sea," which means only one thing - a call for the destruction of Israel! Instead of real, effective action against anti-Semitism - weak statements and "concern!"

Speaking about our politicians, I can say only one thing: their silence in this case is no different from appeasement. I believe that today Europe is at the same point as in 1938 and in 2014. The logic of "my house is on the edge," appeasement of bandit regimes, and the pacification of aggressors - we have already gone through this and know where it led.

If the Iranian regime, which many, including in Latvia, portray as a victim of aggression, were to acquire nuclear weapons, then believe me - none of us would be thinking about the rising prices of gasoline or diesel. The main thing occupying our minds would be whether these fanatics would detonate an atomic bomb in some country they consider hostile (and as we have seen, enemies for them are practically anyone who does not share their faith and viewpoint), and whether the world would be enveloped in a nuclear cloud.

I believe it is necessary to express a clear position of solidarity with the USA and Israel, who are currently weakening one of the terrorist regimes that pose a danger to the entire world.
