Currently, there is no energy crisis in the country, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa stated to journalists on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister noted that residents mainly pay their heating bills through equalized payments so that "such peak heating periods do not cause concern."

Siliņa reported that Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis called for a discussion on this issue with Minister of Climate and Energy Kaspars Melņis and the Ministry of Welfare, so that municipalities are prepared for a sharp increase in heating bills.

The Prime Minister reminded that housing benefits have been increased and in the current situation it is necessary to understand how ready municipalities are to provide assistance. Siliņa expects that Valainis and Melņis will propose real solutions to the government that can be implemented if necessary.

Valainis previously stated that given the low air temperatures this winter, household heating expenses could significantly increase, so he suggested convening an extraordinary meeting of the State Energy Crisis Center to find effective solutions to support the population.

As the most realistic solution to support the population amid rising heating costs, the payment of housing benefits is currently being considered, the minister reported.
