Are Americans Ready to Defend Us if Putin Attacks?

The mayor of Ogre addressed the president of Latvia with an open letter.

The head of the Ogre City Council, Egils Helmanis (National Alliance), has long since moved beyond municipal politics, evidently considering himself a politician of national level. His open letter to Edgars Rinkēvičs is written in the same spirit. Here are the main points of this message from the head of the municipality to the president of the country.

"I, the mayor of Ogre, Egils Helmanis, am addressing President Edgars Rinkēvičs. Since the Davos Forum clearly outlined many questions that remain unanswered. Does NATO still exist? Are Americans ready to defend us if Putin attacks the Baltic states? Is a unified European army possible? Is Europe ready to defend the Baltic states? These questions should be answered by Ms. Braže. She cannot answer them. These questions should be answered by Mr. Spruds, but he cannot answer them. Mr. President, my request is that we need to ensure that Baiba Braže is dismissed from the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Andris Spruds from the post of Minister of Defense. We need professionals, the best we have. Please conduct an audit of how many drones Mr. Spruds supplied to Ukraine. We instruct the Ministry of Education to introduce lessons on patriotic education in schools. Introduce drone management training in schools as a separate subject...

Mr. President, our time is running out, and this is not about me, Egils Helmanis, or you, Edgars Rinkēvičs...

No one can answer all the questions I have asked. It so happened that you became the president of our country. If you choose to do nothing, you will find an excuse not to act, claiming that you do not have such power, that these people do not obey you, then you will have to take responsibility in history for why the people of Latvia were not prepared for Putin's attack. But if you want to do something, understand that the only resource at your disposal is your own people. We may have the best weapons in the world, but if the people do not have the motivation to hold them and defend their independence, it will mean nothing. We need to do our homework; if we act today, we may still manage to save something. I have been desperately trying for 4 years to explain to everyone that the Baltic states are in Putin's plans.

I am confident that we can win. If we are united, we must pass a law on collaborators so that we can identify all those who are waiting for the Russian world as soon as possible."
