Finland, following Latvia and Lithuania, has officially exited the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines. This was reported by the Finnish broadcasting company Yle.
“Finland's decision to withdraw from the Ottawa Convention on the prohibition of anti-personnel mines takes effect today,” said a publication. Finnish authorities notified the United Nations (UN) of the country's withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention in July of last year. It is noted that the denunciation of the agreement will allow Finland to return anti-personnel mines to the armed forces' arsenal.
