The President of Latvia Welcomed the Abduction of the Leader of an Independent State and His Wife

The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, commented on the situation in Venezuela after U.S. military forces abducted Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife and took them out of the country.

Rinkēvičs expressed the opinion on social media that the people of Venezuela will now live better.

Rinkēvičs is confident that the "illegitimate Maduro regime, rooted in corruption, drug trafficking, and organized crime," has long oppressed the Venezuelan people.

"A peaceful transition toward legitimate governance, reflecting the will of the Venezuelan people and consistent with international law, is essential," wrote the President of Latvia.

It is worth noting that on the night of January 3, the United States launched a series of strikes against Venezuela, after which the country's leader, Nicolás Maduro, accused the U.S. of military aggression. Shortly thereafter, U.S. military forces captured Maduro and his wife and brought them to New York, where Maduro is to be tried.

The operation has been condemned by several countries, including China.
