Is It Time to Leave? Population Decline in Latvia and Tax Increases - Strategy until 2050

According to the study prepared and presented in the Saeima by the University of Latvia - commissioned and funded from the state budget of Latvia - there is a focus on the population decline of the country and tax increases until 2050. Instead of developing startups, the emphasis is on 'paper' rankings. Is this good? Didzis Dejus evaluates the 'development' strategy on the Pietiek.com portal.

The University of Latvia has done a great job under the leadership of Rector and Professor Gundars Berziņš. A month ago, on November 28, there was even a presentation in the Saeima.

I read it and cried. If this is the 'development' research, I recommend everyone buy one-way tickets on airBaltic from Latvia. A few references:

  1. On page 90 - 'By 2070, Latvia will have a population of 1.3 million.' On page 40, there is a wonderful graph - when Latvia joined the EU, the country had a population of 2.4 million, now, 21 years later, it is just under 1.9 million, and over the next 45 years, we plan to lose another 0.5 million residents. This report does not mention the goal of increasing the population of Latvia even once.

  2. Therefore... we need to continue raising taxes. Congratulations to everyone! Those who do not believe can read it themselves.

  3. The words 'startups' or 'startup' (technology companies - ed.) are not mentioned even once. In Estonia, the startup economy already accounts for 4.3% of GDP...

  4. Section 4.4 on page 71 states that 'Latvia should be a leader in innovation rankings.' It is not necessary to be a country that creates valuable products, but to be in the rankings.

To achieve this goal, I propose to define several new rankings, for example, 'the number of meaningless studies in the field of innovation'...

Of course, the government pays for the research. I recommend throwing this document in the trash.
